Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 12, 2016

Streetsboro, Ohio

Message from Streetsboro City School District Superintendent, R. Michael Daulbaugh:

After the recent band camp held at Camp Muskingum, I received allegations that some band members may have been hazed, demeaned, and belittled during camp activities in direct violation of established Streetsboro City School Board policies that prohibit hazing and bullying.

Streetsboro High School Band Director and Assistant Band Director have both been relieved of their duties and placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Our Board policy is very clear that the Streetsboro City School District does not tolerate any conduct which can be characterized as intimidation, hazing, or bullying.  While this investigation continues, information regarding Marching Band will be posted as it becomes available on the Streetsboro City Schools website (www.streetsboroschools.com).

Message from Superintendent Mike Daulbaugh

Good morning.

As you are aware, our marching band program has been suspended until we finish our investigation into claims that students may have been hazed, demeaned and belittled during the recent band camp.

I want you to know that we are working to find an interim band director who can step in to get our marching band back on the field. Band members are strongly encouraged to continue to practice their instruments until school resumes.

As a former band member myself, I understand how important this program is to everyone in our district.

We will do everything possible to resume the marching band program at Streetsboro High School as quickly as possible. As soon as I have an update on the situation, I will let you know.

Sad news

Dear Streetsboro Families,

It is with a sad heart I write you to let you know Mrs. Mary Romano, 5th grade teacher at Defer Intermediate School, passed away this past weekend after a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Romano began her career in Streetsboro in August of 2014 as a 5th grade teacher and was quickly liked by all of her students and staff.  Mrs. Romano will certainly be missed by all.

Counselors will be available to any student who may need to talk about Mrs. Romano and her passing.  Please call the Defer Intermediate School Office at 330.422.2480 to arrange for counseling if your child needs it.

Sincerely,

R. Michael Daulbaugh, Superintendent

District Survey

Community Feedback Survey:

When the new high school is completed, a large 20x20 rocket image will be hung on the side of the new high school for motorists to see traveling on Route 14.  This rocket image will  be the first view of the school when approaching town.  Working in partnership with Maplewood Career Center, students were given the opportunity to design the artwork that will be hung on the gymnasium for the life of the building.  Students were told to design artwork that represents the Streetsboro City Schools.  Once the design is chosen, the students at Maplewood Career Center will manufacture and fabricate the sign at the career center.  Please follow the link below to provide your feedback regarding the artwork being designed.  Thank you for your input and Go Rockets!
