Streetsboro Summer STEM Academy

Enrollment for STEM Academy is Limited!

This summer academy is a project-based experience designed to introduce incoming Streetsboro 6th grade students to the fundamentals of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). This hands-on program is based on Project Lead the Way (PLTW), a successful pre-engineering program that is currently taught in Streetsboro Middle and High School. Participants will work together in fun, exciting, leading-edge technologies to sample such disciplines as robotics, aeronautics and computer-aided design. The week-long academy will include a field trip to a local STEM-related business.

Enrollment is based on a first come, first serve basis for incoming (2018-2019 School Year) 6th grade students (limit-20). Registration cost is $75. This years program will be held from June 4 - 8, from 8am to 12pm. Fliers should be sent home sometime during the week of 5/8. When to Seek Help for Depression in Children

Get Help for Depression & Children

Most children feel sad and low every once in a while, but these feelings usually pass in a few days. Untreated depression, however, lasts for a long time and interferes with day-to-day activity.

Children who are depressed may complain of feeling sick, refuse to go to school, cling to a parent or caregiver, or worry excessively that a parent may die. Older children may sulk, get into trouble, be negative or grouchy, or feel misunderstood. Youth are more likely to respond to treatment if they receive it early in the course of their illness.

24-Hour Crisis Hotline

24 hour crisis lines are available to help in a mental health crisis, answer questions and concerns, and to schedule appointments with a mental health professional. Call 330.296.3555 for Coleman or 330.678.4357 for Townhall II, or text 4hope to 741 741.

Health & Wellness - Talking with your children

How to talk to your children about scary news

Recent school shootings, international conflicts or natural disasters in the news can have a profound effect on children many miles from the scene. The sheer volume of media exposure of disturbing tragedies makes it difficult to prevent kids from experiencing them vicariously through the news.

The most important thing to do first is to start the conversation. Don’t expect kids to approach you about it. Ask your child about her understanding of the events and how they make her feel.

Without proper assurance, the impact of traumatic events can remain with kids for a long time, even throughout their lives. Below are 5 tips to help your child weather the most traumatic disasters, while growing even stronger.

National Walkout Day 2018 to End Gun Violence

Statement from Superintendent Mike Daulbaugh

If there was ever any doubt regarding the class and integrity of our students, there shouldn’t be now. I just had the honor of standing by our students as they honored the seventeen victims of the Parkland Florida tragedy. Under the direction and planning of the student leadership team, students departed the school in a silent and orderly fashion and walked to the stadium.

After all participants were in the stadium, the student leadership team read the name and released a balloon for each of the victims from Parkland tragedy. After all names were read, all students locked arms and stood in silence for seventeen minutes to honor them. With wind chills below zero and snowing fiercely, the students remained quiet and reverent without moving.

As a superintendent, I could not be more proud of our students for the statement they made today. I was personally moved at the maturity and respect our students demonstrated today.

Also, I would like to thank the Streetsboro Police Department for sending cruisers to block off all access to the back part of the high school so that our students could protest in peace.

I would also like to thank the high school administration and guidance department for helping our students make such a powerful and positive statement.

WE HAVE THE BEST KIDS IN STREETSBORO. This community should be proud of our students!

Veterans Day is an official United States public holiday, observed annually on November 11, that honors military veterans; that is, persons who served in the United States Armed Forces.

It coincides with other holidays, including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I; major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. The United States previously observed Armistice Day. The U.S. holiday was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.
