It is my pleasure to serve as the new superintendent of Streetsboro City School district. As our mission expresses, we are responsible for educating to the best of our abilities all the young people entrusted to our care and encourage students to strive beyond their expectations academically, socially, emotionally, physically and civically. We take this responsibility very seriously and will work diligently to continually strive to offer the highest quality, every day to the students of Streetsboro.
Over the course of the next year the district will undergo an extensive strategic planning process. The process will evaluate every aspect of our organization and involve representatives from all facets of the community. The end result will be a plan that serves as a guide for the district for the next five years. We encourage our community to become involved and voice their opinions on the direction of our schools.
There are many elements that play into the success of a community. One of the foundational pillars is a quality public education system. We must continually pursue excellence in this arena. At this time we are facing many challenges in education including a potential decrease in state funding and ever increasing mandates. This community supported the schools last November by passing the levy. This fall we are asking for your continued support by renewing our emergency levy. Although this is not asking for additional monies and tax payers will NOT have to pay more, we do not make this decision without serious consideration. Through reduction in force and attrition the district has reduced staff substantially over the last three years and both certified and classified unions have agreed to concessions in an attempt to limit the burden on tax payers. We will remain committed to fiscal transparency and solvency while providing the necessary education for young people. More information will be forthcoming on the renewal levy as well as the strategic planning process in September.
I look forward to meeting our public and working collaboratively with our staff throughout the course of the year. Should you have any questions or if we can be of assistance, please feel free to call 330-626-4900.
