Currently, Mrs. Baba serves as the Board's vice president as well as the Board's Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) Legislative Liaison, Delegate to the OSBA state convention and PTA Liaison. She also holds a seat on the OSBA Northeast Region Executive Committee. In January 2012, Denise was appointed to the OSBA Board Member Cabinet. The Cabinet consists of 18 board members from across the state. The delegation meets regularly with the state superintendent of public instruction and the govenor's office in an effort to increase collaboration. Denise is also a member of the National School Boards Association Federal Relations Network (FRN). Local school board members from each congressional district across the country who are committed to grassroots advocacy for public education comprise FRN. It is the core of NSBA's advocacy efforts. Working in tandem with NSBA's lobbyist, FRN members strive to give federal legislators a more complete understanding of the impact decisions made in Washington DC have on public education at the local level. Denise received her third OSBA Award of Achievement in the spring of 2010 and was honored with the OSBA Master Board Member award at the same time. The OSBA Award of Achievement program recognizes Ohio public school board members who strive to become better board members by participating in workshops and conferences, volunteering for service to their association, and working on behalf of their own Board. The Master Board Member award is a lifetime designation recognizing a commitment to professional development. Denise has a background in broadcast journalism, marketing and public relations. A graduate of Northwestern University, Denise also holds a Master of Education degree from Cleveland State University. She and her husband Frank, a Chief Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force Reserve are the parents of Rachel, who attends Campus Elementary School. |
